Silicone Mixing (Core Steps)

1. Determine the Ratio

   • Strictly mix components A and B according to the ratio specified in the silicone instructions (common ratios are 10:1, 5:1, or by weight; do not estimate by eye). For example: if component A is 100g, component B should be 10g (10:1 ratio).
   • Note: The curing agent activity varies by silicone brand; incorrect ratios may result in incomplete curing (stickiness) or overly rapid curing (insufficient working time).

2. Stirring and Mixing

   • Pour component A into a clean container, then add component B in the correct ratio. Stir unidirectionally (clockwise or counterclockwise) along the container wall with a stirring rod, avoiding vigorous stirring to minimize air bubbles.
   • Stirring time: Typically 3-5 minutes, ensuring complete mixing of components A and B (observe uniform silicone color without streaks or patches). Ensure thorough stirring at the bottom and edges to prevent unmixed component A residue.

Deaeration Treatment

• If using a vacuum deaeration machine: Place the mixed silicone into the vacuum chamber, evacuate to -0.1MPa, wait until bubbles fully rise and burst (approximately 1-2 minutes), stop vacuuming, and remove the silicone (the silicone may expand due to pressure reduction; let it sit for 1 minute to return to normal).
• If no equipment is available: Let the silicone sit for 5-10 minutes to allow large bubbles to naturally rise and burst (small bubbles can be ignored and may dissipate during subsequent operations).
• Note: Use the silicone promptly after deaeration to prevent premature curing.

Pouring / Brushing Molding Operations

Choose the appropriate molding method based on the prototype's size and shape:

1. Pouring Method (suitable for small, simple-shaped prototypes)

   • Slowly pour the deaerated silicone into the container holding the prototype (the container should be taller than the prototype to allow for mold thickness). Pour slowly from one corner of the prototype to let the silicone flow along the surface and reduce trapped bubbles.
   • If the prototype has hollows or deep holes, fill them with silicone first before overall pouring to prevent internal bubble formation.

2. Brushing Method (suitable for large, complex-shaped prototypes or those with raised textures)

   • First layer: Use a brush to apply silicone evenly onto the prototype surface (focus on covering textured details), with a thickness of about 1-2mm. Ensure the silicone fully adheres to the prototype and expels air from the textures.
   • Second and subsequent layers: After the first layer is semi-cured (not sticky to the touch, approximately 15-30 minutes depending on temperature), continue brushing on silicone. Glass fiber cloth can be added to enhance mold strength (suitable for large molds to prevent deformation). Control each layer to 2-3mm thickness, with total thickness depending on prototype size (5-10mm for small molds, 10-20mm for large molds).
